Moving off Payhip: your checklist

1. Plan the move 3 to 4 weeks before

• Pick a quiet switch-over day. Not the first week of term, and not the week of a big launch.
• Choose the domain your new site will live on, and buy it if you haven't already.
• Note how your members pay (card or PayPal) and when each subscription renews. This decides how they move across.
• Set up your own Stripe account, so payments on the new site go straight to you.

2. Export everything 2 to 3 weeks before

Take a full copy of your shop before you change anything, and keep it somewhere safe, even if someone else is handling the move.

• Every product file, at its original quality (not the preview versions).
• Product titles, descriptions, prices, tags and cover images.
• Your customer and member list, downloaded as a spreadsheet.
• Your order history, so past purchases can be matched to the right people.
• A list of every product URL. You'll need it for redirects.
• Live discount codes, bundles and any reviews you want to keep.

3. Tell your members 2 weeks before, and on the day

• Send a short heads-up: what's changing, what isn't, and that they keep everything they've bought.
• Explain that passwords can't be moved, so they'll set a new one the first time they log in.
• Draft the "we've moved" email for the day, with the new link and how to log in.

4. Keep old links working the week before

Your old product links live in Pinterest pins, blog posts, Facebook groups and teachers' bookmarks. If they break, you lose sales you'll never see.

• Match every old product URL to its page on the new site.
• Set up redirects, so each old link lands on the right new page.
• Update the links you control: Instagram bio, Pinterest boards, blog posts, Facebook group and your email signature.

5. Switch-over day

• Log in as a few members and check they can see their past purchases.
• Test a purchase end to end, including the receipt email and the download.
• Click through a handful of old links and check they redirect.
• Send your "we've moved" email.

6. The month after

• Keep a close eye on your inbox for the first few days, and help anyone stuck logging in.
• Keep your Payhip account open until every subscription has moved and your final payouts have arrived.
• Check Google Search Console for broken links once the new site is indexed.
